Police raid in Migdal HaEmek: High school yeshiva student detained today during class on suspicion of vandalizing vehicles 6 months ago

Monday, November 25, 2013 14:31 On Monday, November 25 the police raided a high school yeshiva in Migdal HaEmek, bursting into a classroom during a class to detain a 17 year old 11th grade student for interrogation. The student is suspected of setting on fire vehicles out of nationalist motivation. After only a few hours the shocked student, who had been detained in front of school staff and his fellow classmates, was released from interrogation.
Honenu attorney Ran Shaham stated, “The detainee, a minor, denies all charges and was released immediately at the close of his interrogation. It is not clear why he was detained in the first place and it is regrettable that the police chose to detain him in the middle of the day, in the middle of a class thus causing him added distress in addition to the detention itself. It is especially irritating in light of the fact that suspicion was of misdemeanors carried out approximately six months ago. There is no possible justification for the insensitivity of detaining a minor under these circumstances.”
