Sunday, August 27, 2023, 16:19 Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher wrote a letter to the Jerusalem District Police Commander demanding that the police arrest the terrorists who attacked a Jewish couple on their way to Hadassah Mt. Scopus Hospital two weeks ago. As of now, no arrests have been made.
Attorney Bleicher described the attack in his letter: “My clients, a young couple, were driving with a doula to Hadassah Mt. Scopus Hospital for the birth of their third son. My client was already in labor. Because of changes to the roads on Mt. Scopus, my client made a wrong turn and entered the Isawiya neighborhood. When my client realized he had erred, he asked Arab youths for directions to the hospital, but they intentionally misled my client. They directed him deeper into the neighborhood. At some point, an adult Arab noticed him and instructed him to make a U-turn and follow him out of the neighborhood. As my client turned around, an organized attack began. Dozens of terrorists threw rocks and launched fireworks directly at my clients.
“One terrorist opened the driver’s door, grabbed my client’s head, and punched him in the face, neck, and back. Miraculously, my client pushed the terrorist away and drove off. As he drove, [the terrorists] barraged the car with rocks and fireworks. One rock shattered the back windshield and scattered glass shards on my client and the doula. My quick-witted client escaped and reached the hospital, where a bystander summoned the police,” wrote Attorney Bleicher.
Attorney Bleicher pointed out that it is crucial to bring back a sense of security to the area for everyone. “It is intolerable for a couple on their way to a hospital delivery room in the capital city to face attempted murder by a mob. The terrorists who carried out the vicious attack must be prosecuted, despite the difficulties in gathering evidence. We value the operations of the police, in particular the concerted efforts of the [local] Shalem Police Station. Because of the seriousness of the incident, I ask for the GSS to be involved in the investigation and use all available resources to combat terrorism. This incident must be considered a strategic threat to our lives. Those responsible for this despicable act must be combatted with full force, including administrative proceedings against the suspects and the neighborhood, most of whose residents are participants in and supporters of these inhumane acts,” concluded Bleicher.
Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher commented on the attack, “Vicious attacks such as this affect the morale of Israeli citizens. A couple was on their way to the hospital. While the wife was already in labor, the couple and their doula were attacked by the assailants who knew they were on the way to the hospital delivery room. We must not allow this attack to be forgotten. It must shock the nation. We expect the State of Israel to penalize everyone who took part in the attack.”
