Seven detained protesters released overnight
Friday, November 26, 2021, 9:39 On the evening of Thursday, November 25, a demonstration protesting the death of Ahuvia Sandak, z”l was held at Zion Square in Jerusalem. Protesters made several attempts to block the light rail, and large numbers of police forces, including mounted police, clashed with them. Seven protesters were detained, among them 14- and 15-year-old girls.
Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvili provided the detainees with legal assistance at the police station and worked towards their release. Shimshilashvili stated that the detainees reported police brutality during their detention: “The policemen have again applied unreasonable force on protesters. During consultation with the overwhelming majority of them, particularly with the minors, the matter of unnecessary use of extreme force on them by the policemen came up. I demanded that the material in the case be transferred to the Police Investigation Unit for investigation. All of the detainees were released overnight at the police station.”
Protest opposite the residence of PIU head Keren Bar-Menachem
Saturday, November 27, 2021, 22:10 Over 200 demonstrators protested opposite the residence of PIU head Keren Bar-Menachem in Netanya on Saturday night, after Shabbat. The protesters called on Bar-Menachem not to whitewash the investigation into the death of Ahuvia Sandak, z”l. Ahuvia’s father, Avraham Sandak spoke at the protest. During the protest, a Yassam policeman was filmed losing control and beating one of the protesters.
