Shomron resident detained after catching rock thrower

Wednesday, December 17, 2014, 21:41 On the evening of Wednesday, December 17 a resident of Havat Gilad in the Shomron noticed an Arab youth approximately 15 years old throw a rock at his car near the Arab town of Kfar Fonduk. and then flee towards a nearby store. The driver stopped his car, chased the youth, caught him and called the police. A crowd of Arabs began to gather at the site and when the driver felt that his life was in danger he took an axe which he kept for his work in renovations/repairs out of his car. Due to the claim by the Arabs that the driver had threatened them with the axe, the policemen who arrived on the scene decided to detain him for interrogation at the Kedum Police Station in the nearby Jewish community of Emanuel. The Arab youth who threw the rock was also detained for interrogation. After approximately one hour the driver was released after he signed on bail and an agreement to appear for interrogation at the police station the following morning.
Honenu attorney Adi Kedar, who assisted the driver, said in response,” We demand that the police handle the Arab suspect with utmost severity, and thereby send a clear message concerning the unstable security situation in the area. As is well known rock and fire-bomb throwing has become a matter of course. We also express our astonishment that the driver was summoned for interrogation and hope that his testimony will be recorded as only a complaint and not as an interrogation with a warning.”
