Wednesday, July 12, 2023, 14:08 The State Attorney’s Office indicted the soldier who was detained after the Eli terror attack. He was held for interrogation under harsh conditions by the GSS and prevented from meeting with an attorney for several days. The soldier was accused of taking part in incidents near the Arab village of Umm Tzafa in the Binyamin region after Yehuda and Shomron residents rushed to defend Jewish residents of a farm in the area who were attacked by dozens of rioting Arabs.

Honenu Attorney David HaLevi, who is representing the soldier, stated, “My client denies any connection to the crimes attributed to him. He was mistakenly identified as the perpetrator. From the start, the case presented dubious grounds for its prosecution.  It is a disgrace that my client was prosecuted only because of media and populist concerns. I estimate that in the end, my client will be acquitted of all charges. Unfortunately, this case, like many others, is corrupted by selective law enforcement: An Arab who did take part in the incident in question has not been either interrogated or put on trial.”
