10:18 The policemen involved with the fatal car chase are being interrogated
The four injured youths from the horrific accident in Binyamin in which 16-year-old Ahuvia Sandak, z”l, was killed when, during a police chase, an unmarked police car rammed the car in which he was a passenger, will be brought to a deliberation at the Petah Tikva Magistrates Court at 11:30.
The investigation of the injured youths has been transferred from the Central Unit of Yehuda and Shomron Police to the Tel Aviv Police following the opening of an investigation of the policemen involved with the accident. Honenu Attorneys Nati Rom and Adi Keidar are representing the injured youths and are expected to demand their immediate release at the deliberation.
Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar: “The injured youths from the horrific accident are still being held in remand by the Israeli Police. They are four youths, some of them minors, who experienced a major trauma.
“We have been informed that the investigative case has been transferred from the Central Unit of Yehuda and Shomron Police to the Tel Aviv Police. We all hope and expect that the transfer of the case to impartial hands will lead to the immediate release of the suspects, and perhaps also, in general, return the investigation of cases to impartial hands – in contrast to the Central Unit of Yehuda and Shomron Police, whose extreme conduct is not limited to their reckless driving yesterday during the chase, but rather has been evident for all of the years that they have busied themselves only with pursuing Jews. Unfortunately they have indirectly strengthened terror by not responding to it. We hope that [law enforcement] will return to its correct proportions, which will lead to the release of the youths who first and foremost need to mourn the death of their friend.”
11:08 Deliberation times
At 11:30 two minors will be brought to a deliberation at the Bat Yam Juvenile Court. Afterwards the two adults will be brought to a deliberation at the Tel Aviv Magistrates Court.

17:26 The protest information is presented for the convenience of the interested public

19:00 Police continue cover-up
On Tuesday, December 22, the injured youths were brought to a deliberation at the Bat Yam Magistrates Court. The police demanded that their remand be extended by ten days. The court extended their remand by two days. Honenu Attorneys Adi Keidar and Nati Rom, who are representing the youths, filed an appeal with the Tel Aviv District Court. A deliberation on the appeal is expected to take place tomorrow morning.
The deliberations took place at the Bat Yam Magistrates Court due to the investigation being transferred from the Central Unit of Yehuda and Shomron Police to the Central Unit of the Tel Aviv Police, because the PIU is investigating the policemen from the Central Unit of Yehuda and Shomron Police who were involved with the accident.
Rom: “Even after such a tragic incident that genuinely pains everyone, the Israeli Police, the ‘responsible adult’ in charge of maintaining the law, is continuing the cover-up and claiming that the police car never came into contact with the car that the injured youths and the one who was killed were driving. All of our questions have been met by a thick wall. This is unbelievable.
“I am pleased that the court finally authorized a psychologist to enter and speak to the youths, who are in a difficult emotional state after the death of their good friend. We hope that on Thursday they will be released.”
Keidar: “The police conduct indicates that they are doing everything that they can to cover up their responsibility for the death that was unnecessarily caused by them. I hope that the court will order the immediate release of the detainees who are still traumatized from the horrific incident.”
20:58 Ten detainees at the String Bridge protest
Ten demonstrators have been detained at the String Bridge in Jerusalem. Clashes between police and demonstrators have been reported. Honenu Attorneys are assisting the detainees.
Protests are taking place at several location in Israel: opposite the Ariel Police Station, in Beit She’an, and at several intersections in the Shomron region. Approximately 200 people are demonstrating opposite the residence of Minister Ohana, calling for forming an investigative committee and closing the Central Unit of Yehuda and Shomron Police.

21:30 Ahuvia’s family to the PIU: Investigate the policemen on suspicion of murder
Earlier today (Tuesday), on behalf of the family of Ahuvia Sandak, z”l, Honenu Attorney Menashe Yado filed a complaint with the PIU for the crime of murder.
From the complaint: “The information we currently have, and which undoubtedly the investigating authorities have, clearly indicates the following: The police car rammed from behind the car in which the youths were traveling. The ramming was at high speed. The ramming threw the car in which the youths were traveling dozens of meters. As a result of the ramming Ahuvia, z”l, was killed.
“These circumstances establish a basis for the apathy of the policeman who rammed the car to the extremely likely consequence of causing death. Despite the pain of suspecting a policeman of murder, that is the conclusion which clearly arises from the evidence and there is no escape from investigating this charge.” Yado also demanded that the policemen be detained and investigated while they are in remand.
“We filed a complaint at the PIU offices for murder on the basis of the killing of Ahuvia Sandak yesterday in a police chase. The complaint was filed after we, with the assistance of professionals, had investigated the incident. There is reliable and clear evidence that we presume the PIU also has, which establish the factual basis for the crime of murder. The evidence establishes a basis for proving the apathy of the policeman who rammed the car to the extremely likely consequence of causing death. Therefore the charge of murder must be investigated and as such the suspects detained.
“All of the evidence must be gathered from the scene of the accident. We believe and hope that an effective investigation will be carried out. We think that the investigation can be very short and the findings at the scene are very, very clear. We, of course, demanded that the police refrain from any investigative activity of the death which undoubtedly was caused as a result of the action of a policeman.”
