Protest to be held demanding a GSS investigation

Tuesday, October 5, 2021, 9:22 On Monday, October 4, Moshe Shete, the son-in-law of Destau Bisset, z”l, who was murdered in Ramle during the Arab riots at the time of Operation Guardian of the Walls, spoke at a Public Security Committee meeting in the Knesset about the disregard of the police in solving the murder. Shete described the family’s suffering and called for action to get the GSS involved in mixed Arab-Jewish cities in general and in the investigation of the murder in particular.
At the opening of his statement, Shete described the murder: “On Thursday, the 30th of May, my father-in-law, Hy”d, went out to escort his guests home. At a nearby bus stop, a few meters from his house, two cyclists on motorized bicycles came up suddenly, after they had planned [the attack] well, hit him, knocked him onto the sidewalk, and continued on their way. He suffered a head injury and was evacuated. His guests, who were still there, and a passer-by reported a ramming attack. My father-in-law was evacuated to the Assaf HaRofeh hospital in serious condition and after three weeks, during which time he was in a medically induced coma, passed away.”
Shete elaborated regarding the family’s substantial efforts to convince the police to investigate the attack: “From the day he was injured, his daughter and myself ran around for ten days locating security cameras and telling the police to come and gather the documentation. For ten days the police did nothing and did not gather the documentation.
“The following day [after the attack], the daughter of the deceased went to the police station and waited five whole hours until they took her testimony. After five hours, they took them [the family] to a side room, a dining hall, and there they took their testimony. Since then the police have simply continued to belittle the case. Four and a half months have passed since my father-in-law was killed in a nationalistically motivated murder, and nobody cares.”
Later, Shete asked the police for an update about the case: “We asked the commissioner what was happening with the case, and he replied that, ‘We are investigating and we are taking care of it. The police are with the family and embracing them.’ I don’t want to be embraced. You aren’t social workers. You are supposed to give answers. I don’t need [embraces]. I need someone to apprehend suspects and put them in prison. Four and a half months have passed, and one day is enough to tamper with evidence,” said Shete to the police representative at the committee meeting.
Shete continued: “Earlier, the police representative spoke about the importance of bringing the GSS to mixed cities. I completely agree with him, but that is not enough. We demanded that the GSS be brought in to investigate this case. Do you understand how outrageous the disrespect is when a man is murdered and nobody is doing anything?
“And then they tell me stories, that the police are investigating and ’embracing’. We demand that the police and the Prime Minister bring the GSS in and apprehend suspects. We are concerned that this case will remain like this forever, and that the suspects will never be found. We demand that the GSS instill order in mixed cities,” concluded Shete.
As of now, two suspects have been investigated for the murder and released due to lack of evidence. Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is representing the Bisset family as victims of terror, stated, “This was an intentional murder of a Jew and an abandonment of the victim wallowing in his own blood. It must not be that dangerous murderers continue to walk free. Everything must be done to apprehend the murderers and bring them to trial. The blood of a Jew in the State of Israel is not cheap.”
Destau Bisset, z”l, age 74, was run over by two Arabs riding electric bicycles in Ramle in May, during Operation Guardian of the Walls, and succumbed to his injuries approximately three weeks later. Eyewitnesses to the incident stated that the cyclists intentionally collided with Bisset, attempted to run over people waiting at a bus station and then fled the scene.
