House arrest of assaulted youths canceled

Tuesday, February 20, 2018, 18:49 On Tuesday, February 20, the Jerusalem District Court accepted the appeal filed by Honenu and canceled the house arrest that the Jerusalem Magistrate had imposed on three youths assaulted by several Arabs as they walked through the Old City of Jerusalem on February 14. The youths were forced to defend themselves and one of them suffered serious facial injuries.
After the assault the police detained the three youths and brought them to the police station. The Arab assailants were also detained and as of the time of this posting remain under house arrest.
At a deliberation held the following day (February 15) at the Jerusalem Magistrate Court, after viewing a video clip from the security cameras that documented the incident, the judge ruled that the Arabs had initiated the assault. The judge ordered the release of the three youths to house arrest, which was canceled five days later by the Jerusalem District Court.
Honenu Attorney Avichai Hajbi, who is handling the case, stated that, “The decision speaks for itself. I am certain that my clients’ case will be closed.”
