Minors unconditionally released

Monday, August 20, 2018, 11:49 On the morning of Monday, August 20, the six girls who were detained the previous day at the Shomron Brigade Intersection while blocking the road in protest of the fact that the murder of an Emmanuel resident near Havat Gilad has not yet been investigated were released. All of the girls are minors, the youngest of whom is 11 years old and was held illegally without being permitted to contact her parents. The girls refused to sign documents distancing them from Yehuda and Shomron and were released without restrictive conditions.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom: “All of the girls who were detained yesterday have been released. Unfortunately their detention involved a severe violation of their rights. One of them, who is only 11 years old and therefore not of age to be criminally responsible, was held for many hours while her family did not know where she was. After a great effort we succeeded in locating her and clarified to the police that her detention was not legal and was carried out without authorization. At this stage the police understood that they were operating without authority, took her out of the station, but after a few minutes returned her to the station for a long time.
“This was a serious violation of human rights, for which there was no authorization. It is a shame that the Ariel Police time after time violate the rights of minors, when their job is to be entrusted with the rule of law in the area.”
