Monday, March 14 On Sunday at the Magistrate Court in K’far Saba a deliberation took place for the four residents of Binyamin and Shomron who were arrested approximately one year ago during a protest opposite the home of Rami Ziv, the Civil Administration’s Inspection Unit Deputy Chief.
The court postponed their trial for the purpose of appointing lawyers.
The four were arrested approximately one year ago after protesting opposite the home of Rami Ziv, the Civil Administration’s Inspection Unit Deputy Chief. A police officer by the name Dror Dekel arrived at the scene of the protest. Dekel, who is known for his harassment of settlers, ordered them to leave the site within 10 minutes or else they would be arrested. After four minutes Dekel ordered his policemen to arrest the protesters.
The following day the police issued a charge sheet against the protesters attributing to them violations of harassing a public servant and obstructing a police officer. The police requested that the protesters be distanced from any and all public servants until the end of the proceedings. The court ruled that they will be distanced from Peduel and all public servants for a period of 90 days.
Honenu presented an appeal on the decision to the regional court and later to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruled that the rights of the protesters were crushed and on its recommendation the restrictive conditions placed on them were canceled.
As a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling, the charge sheet was corrected and now includes only the violations of obstructing and disturbing a police officer, according to the claims of officer Dekel that the protesters refused to disperse.
