Thursday, September 11, 2025, 9:09 On the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day this year, an Arab brutally attacked a 70-year-old Jewish man in Jerusalem. During the attack, the Arab shouted, “I am taking revenge on Jews.” After the attack, the victim filed a complaint with the police and requested recognition as a terror victim. The police detained the assailant. However, the State Attorney’s office classified the case as criminal, not terroristic. Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher wrote to the State Attorney’s office, demanding that the assailant be put on trial for a terror attack.
In his letter, Attorney Bleicher described the attack: “On April 23, 2025, a terrorist attacked my client, an elderly Hassidic Jew. The vicious attack was motivated solely by antisemitism. [My client] entered the site as the terrorist, in an uncontrollable moment of rage, looked for a Jewish victim. My client testified to the police that during the attack, the terrorist kicked him and punched his face as if he were ‘possessed.’ The terrorist shouted ‘revenge’ on the Jews who had attacked his father. Afterward, my client tried to approach the terrorist’s car so that he could record the license plate number. However, the terrorist [who had returned to his car] came out armed with a hammer, and started to run towards him with the intent to murder him. Another Arab prevented him from carrying out his intention.”
Attorney Bleicher issued a statement: “Viciously beating and attempting to murder an elderly Jew with a hammer constitutes an antisemitic terror attack. It is not clear how a terrorist is walking free, and an assault case has been almost completely swept under the rug. Turning a blind eye to an attack will not make antisemitic terror disappear. Ignoring the issue will only result in repeat attacks of even greater force. We ask the State Attorney’s office to come to their senses and give an appropriate legal response. The prosecution of terrorists is an essential component of maintaining public security.”
