Miguel, the GSS agent who was in charge of Ben Uliel’s torturous interrogation sessions, and Chief Superintendent Erez Amouyal, who was the head of the police team that investigated the arson attack in Kfar Duma, accompanied Ben Uliel in an army jeep to Kfar Duma for the reenactment of the torching. It should be noted that according to police regulations, a reenactment must be led by an officer who is not a member of the team investigating the case and does not know the details of the investigation.
In their conviction of Ben Uliel, the Lod District Court relied on the reenactment, which he initially refused to carry out. Only after prompts from Miguel and an 18-minute break in the recording of the reenactment did Ben Uliel suddenly “remember” details of the torching.
A viewing of the reenactment reveals several noteworthy details:
1) At the entrance to Kfar Duma, Ben Uliel asks to get out of the jeep and to continue on foot. However, Amouyal objects, and insists that they stop near the Dawabsheh family’s house. If Ben Uliel had gotten out when he requested, the unreliability of the reenactment and his lack of familiarity with the area would have been more obvious.
2) When Ben Uliel and Amouyal got out of the jeep, Miguel immediately joined and escorted them.
3) Very close to the Dawabsheh family’s house, on the path that Ben Uliel supposedly walked, there was a large house under construction with cement pillars. Apparently he was not briefed about the pillars, because he said that they were new and had not been there on the night of the torching. However, photographs and video clips from that night clearly show the pillars. Ben Uliel could not have walked the path that he supposedly walked and not seen them.
