Havat Gilad resident suspected of involvement with vehicular arson released

Sunday, February 26, 15:54 Honenu reports that A’, the Havat Gilad resident arrested last week on suspicion of involvement with setting a police car on fire eight months ago has been released.
To reiterate, A’ was arrested on suspicion of involvement with torching the police car of the Binyamin Region Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Yoram Akua. The car was torched approximately eight months ago during the violent destruction at the Alei Ayin outpost near Shiloh in the Binyamin region. Ten residents of area communities were injured by the police violence which included usage of batons and throwing stun grenades and fire-crackers. A short time after the incident five youths were arrested and quickly and unconditionally released.
Last Wednesday A’, a 22 year old Havat Gilad resident, was arrested on suspicion of involvement with the incident. The following day he was brought before a judge who extended his remand until today (Sunday).
Today the police decided to release A’ without an additional deliberation, on condition that he remain under house arrest for five days at his parents’ home on Kibbutz Ein Tzurim. Honenu attorney David HaLevi, who is representing the arrestee, agreed on his behalf to the conditions set by the police.
It should be noted that this is the third time in the past two weeks that the police have arrested a suspect on suspicion of vandalism and in the end decided to release him after no connection was proven between him and the act of which he was accused.
